Simple Packaging Coolness

Our first youtube link! This package from Nintendo with their new DS Lite inside (turn up your sound!) was sent to Gabe and Tycho of the webcomic Penny Arcade. Nintendo is known for doing really cool things with packaging they send out as freebies to media/pr people to make their new products stand out.
After the video, check out Penny Arcade’s neat new ESRB ad campaign (scroll down to “the ESRB thing”). Cool stuff from a couple of gamers who started a webcomic and blog 7 years ago.
Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play Charity in their second year raised a half a mil for Children’s hospitals across the country. Read about the whole story behind why the charity was created. The power of a good blog is amazing when you can harness the trust and passion of your visitors.

This reminds me of those greeting cards that play a little song when you open them…
The outside packaging looked pretty boring, though. The music came after you had already committed to opening the box. I guess it does make it more memorable and causes you to pause and take notice. This is probably good for the media types that get tons of these in the mail.
